Best of South India Tour

Durations: 15 Days / 14 Nights

Adventure and thrill marks this trip, making it a must-travel destination for the ubiquitous traveller! The experience ranges from excitement to awe, what with the spectacular beauty of the hills of Munnar and Ooty, the exotic wildlife in the sanctuaries of Periyar, and the royal legacy of Mysore. Besides, South India’s ancient monuments and temples are great examples of artistic, religious and cultural accomplishment. All this more than makes up for a fun-filled holiday!

Day 1: Chennai (Madras)

Arrive at Chennai station/airport and transfer to Hotel. Spend a relaxed morning and then proceed for a city tour comprising a visit to Fort St. George, built by the East India Company in 1653 and St Mary's Church, which has the distinction of being the first English church in India. Grace your presence at the hotel where a welcome dinner has been arranged for this evening. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Chennai - Mysore

Start early morning for the imposing Chennai Central Station for a train trip to Mysore and transfer to the hotel. A must visit is Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Mysore

We plan your day so as to include the opulent Mysore Palace, (a building in the Indo-Saracenic style), Chamundi Hill and Nandi Bull. The city is full of vibrant markets and offers a good time to shoppers, especially those looking for authentic silk and sandalwood products. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 4: : Mysore - Ooty

You are headed for Ooty, the most popular hill station in South India. After lunch at the hotel, enjoy the toy train ride that allows you a visual treat of the Nilgiri biosphere and arrives at Coonoor, another hill town with a vast expanse of tea and coffee plantations. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5: Ooty – Cochin

After breakfast at the hotel, gear up for an adventurous drive through the rural landscape that finally leads to the port city of Cochin. After check-in at the hotel, relax with a hearty lunch. Embark on the Sunset Cruise journey that offers one of the best views of Marine Drive, tall buildings, Bolghatti Palace and famous Chinese Fishing Nets. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 6: Cochin

Proceed on a historical south india tour of the city and visit the Jewish Synagogue, built in 1567, that boasts of the Grand Scrolls of the Old Testament and the Dutch Palace. St Francis' Church, where the Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama was buried is also a must-see. Enjoy a cultural evening of Kathakali performance, the traditional dance of Kerala. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 7: Cochin – Kumarakom

Depart for Kumarakom after breakfast. After reaching, check into your hotel and feel free to relax or rejuvenate with an Ayurvedic massage or set out to explore the nearby bird sanctuary. Stay the night at the hotel.

Day 8: Kumarakom – Periyar

Early morning, proceed to Periyar enjoying the view of cardamom, rubber, green pepper and cocoa dotting the landscape. On arrival, check into the hotel and spend the evening relaxing. Night stay at the hotel.

Day 9: Periyar

After breakfast, leave for an exotic plantation tour that will leave you refreshed. Later head for a boat ride on Lake Periyar where you can spot wild animals. Evening is free for a leisurely walk or pampering yourself with Ayurvedic massages at hotel.

Day 10: Periyar – Madurai

Drive down to Madurai, the ancient (2000-year-old) capital of the Pandyans and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Meenakshi Temple, regarded as one of the largest and biggest temples in India. Reconstructed in the 17th century, it displays strong elements of the Dravidian architecture, with "gopurams" or gateways, the tallest going up to160-ft. Get acquainted with the legends associated with the deities as well as the chores/rituals within the precincts.

Day 11: Madurai – Kanyakumari

Drive to Kanyakumari, the southernmost part of India where Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal confluence together. See the glorious sunset. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 12: Kanyakumari – Kovalam

After breakfast, leave for Kovalam, a beach town on the Arabian Sea in Kerala and one of the finest beaches in South India. Kovalam. Go out on the beach and eperience the waters of the Arabian sea mingle with the white sands. The shores have palm fringed bays. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: Kovalam

Set out on a day of excitement at the beach with sunrise and sunset cruising around the beach in small fishing boats led by local fishermen.

Day 14: Kovalam

At leisure on the beach or try Ayurvedic oil and herbal massages. Also visit the 19th century Napier Museum, an example of Kerala style with Mughal and Chinese influences. Treat on the rare collection of archaeological and historical artifacts. Also visit the Sree Chitra Art Gallery which houses the world famous paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 15: Departure

After breakfast, check out and depart for Trivandrum to board a flight for your onward journey.
